He was in boarding house when the 1991 religious riots occurred in Kano over the intended visit of German Evangelist Reinhardt Bonkke for a crusade. He suffered persecution and hatred because of his new faith while in college. Though undaunted, he was regularly beaten and harassed by the officials of the Muslim Students Society (MSS) in school and his scholarship was stopped abruptly when he filled Christian as his faith in the Religion section of his state scholarship form that was filled every year.
He became aware of the call and hand of God upon his life in 2004 through 2005 in Divine Visitations and Encounters with the Lord. At the same period he worked as a Journalist, Producer, Researcher and News Editor with African Independent Television (AIT), Lagos. Also at this same period he was a Worker and Sunday School Teacher in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
He later went on to work for RCCG as a Full Time Minister leading Parishes and also as Administrative Officer in the National Headquarters and in RCCG Jigawa Province, Jigawa State, Nigeria.
On the instruction of God he left RCCG to do specifically what God called him to do. Yusuf Rufa'i never in his wildest imagination think he would turn out to be a Man of God. He gives God the Glory and Praises for this.
